NEW GUINEA IMPATIENS:

Awesome color! New Guinea hybrids are the only 'sun' loving impatiens. Commonly grown as annuals these bushy plants produce large flowers in many bright colors throughout the summer. Some varieties also have colorful variegated foliage. If grown in full sun, keep plants well watered. Plants will not tolerate drought. PETUNIA:

Petunias have been popular for over a century! They are usually grown as annuals that freely produce saucer or trumpet shaped flowers from late spring through fall. Flowers can be single or double and are available in a wide range of colors. Pinch back plants if they become leggy & they will rebloom quickly. They are well suited to use in beds or borders and in containers. Can tolerate light frost and cooler temperatures. Can also take dryer soil and very hot temperatures. SALVIA:

Salvia has upright growth with spikes of bright red flowers over a long period. Salvia is used in massed garden displays, but is also useful in container gardens. Combines well with marigold, petunia & coreopsis. Tolerates heat, humidity and some dryness. Can be cut and dried. Will attract hummingbirds.

VINCA:

Aka "Madagascar Periwinkle". A great choice for Maryland's hot, humid weather and dry soil conditions. Vinca flowers from summer to fall, bearing five petaled flowers in a wide variety of colors. Plants are compact and well branched. Plants prefer to be kept slightly moist, but are also excellent for heat and drought conditions. But plants are very sensitive to overwatering. Will not perform well in cool soils, causing yellowing of leaves and poor growth, plants are very cold sensitive and will be killed by first frost. Use in beds, containers or as a houseplant.
